Race condition

While thinking about fixing the bug that breaks the display of timestamps almost everywhere in my blog, I stumbled across one of my earliest posts complaining about Windows 95 somehow getting the characters I'd typed into the wrong order.

Almost exactly the same thing happened to me at work yesterday (I think it was in a Putty-based Cygwin shell).

That old post dates from early 2002. Over the past few weeks I've seen quite a few people observing the fifth anniversary of their first blog post. I guess 2002 was a big year for new blogs.

The bug can wait for another night.
