The Lurker
The Victorian election
Wow. I just found a bit of political junk mail sent last week, a few days before the state election. It's mostly an unremarkable political ad from the Liberal party, but one side it shows a headline from The Age: Labor surges to huge lead
.
Apart from that — Did they really think people would look at it and say, "well, I was going to vote for Labor, but maybe I should vote for the Liberals so they don't win by too much"? Or "I don't want to vote for the same party as everyone else is voting for..." perhaps? — it suggests that voting for my local Liberal candidate will tell Labor to keep unions under control, protect jobs and to secure a sounder, more vibrant economy
. To the Liberals, if you judge them by their campaign, those three things are one single issue. The only economic threat to Victoria is the possibility of a few unions getting what they want because Labor is in government. Seriously, who the hell is scared of that? I didn't understand during most of November, but now I know the answer to that question. It's the type of person who would write this letter to the newspaper:
Let the people of Victoria reap what they have now sown. By allowing the socialist criminals of Labor's loony left to gain a landslide majority and second term in office, we will see the Cain years all over again.
After Bracks' next three-year term, I hope it is not me that has to say: "I told you so".
Brendan Rowswell, Beaumaris
It's insane stuff like that which makes it so damn entertaining to watch the Liberal party lose, especially since they really deserved to lose as badly as they did.
