psql for other databases

One of the nicer things about using PostgreSQL is psql, its console based front-end. It's a bit better than mysql's equivalent, and much nicer than Oracle's sqlplus (which is, at best, tolerable when coupled with a libreadline helper application like rlwrap or rlfe).
I've just seen a post on Planet Gnome about a new effort to clone psql using libgda, a database abstraction library, which gives me hope that I may some day soon ditch sqlplus for interactive use at work when I need a quick look at the database and don't want to wait for Squirrel to launch.
