Some federal Labor MP has agreed with the Prime Minister that four year federal parliamentary terms might not be a bad idea:

Labor has offered in-principle support for a government plan to extend parliamentary terms to four years.

Prime Minister John Howard is considering extending the parliamentary term by one year, and may introduce voluntary voting and identity checks at polling booths, the Australian newspaper reports.

Presumably Labor are so resigned to their incompetent federal performances that they'd be happier if they didn't have to go through it so often.
