A colourful analogy:

I'd say that it's more like your dad got food poisoning at McDonalds years ago, but dropped his lawsuit. Then, you eat at Wendy's and get food poisoning there so you destroy that specific Wendy's but not the entire chain. You then try to link Wendy's to McDonalds by showing how a manager at Wendy's became a burger flipper at McDonalds, and how the president of McDonalds was the one who allowed the poisoned hamburgers to be sold to your dad. Thus, rather than completely eliminating Wendy's who is the real threat because they have poisoned your food recently and are planning to do it again, you attack McDonalds. You also have KFC out there threatening to choke you with a chicken wing, but you downplay that as silly talk. You also ignore the fact that all of the employees of Wendy's responsible for your food poisoning once worked at Burger King, who you own stock in and don't want to cause trouble with.
