I totally agree with Norm Walsh on the proposed escaped HTML kludge in Pie:

I am astonished by the debate over escaped HTML. Most of the phrases that spring immediately to mind when I consider this debate are unprintable. At least, I'm not going to print them. Not in public. Here's a sanitized summary: "are you freaking nuts?"

I had thought that the Pie project was an effort to produce "a better RSS than RSS 0.9/2.0". But these days, it looks much more likely to be merely an arbitrarily incompatible reimplementation of RSS.

If you're going to break compatibility with existing tools, there needs to be an upside. I'm OK with the road XHTML2 is heading down, if it means that the documents written in XHTML2 will be demonstrably better in some sense than HTML4 or XHTML1. With Pie, we don't get that — we get incompatibility and it's no easier to consume or produce than its predecessor. What's the point?
