Microsoft says half of Windows crashes are caused by third party software
Microsoft criticises third party code for Windows crashes:
Scott Charney, chief security strategist at Microsoft, told developers at the TechEd 2003 conference in Brisbane, that information collected by Dr Watson, the company's reporting tool, revealed that "half of all crashes in Windows are caused not by Microsoft code, but third-party code".
All across the Internet, people are making fun of Microsoft for releasing this statement, largely because he is admitting that Microsoft is responsible for as many Windows crashes as every single other software developer on the planet put together.
They'd better be careful, or the Department of Justice might have to investigate claims that they are leveraging their dominance of the software-crash market into other forms of unreliability, such as security vulnerabilities and catastrophic data loss.
